What is a C-shaped iron yoke?
Can it be used as the split-ring commutator in a DC motor? Does anyone have a picture of a C-shaped iron yoke?
C-shaped iron yoke is a core of an electromagnet with a gap in the magnetic circuit. See these pictures:

It could be used to create an electromagnet with a relatively homogeneous magnetic field inside the gap. There you could put a rotor of a motor. It does not function nor replace a commutator in a DC motor. You still have to use for example a split-ring commutator or an external commutator in case of a brushless DC motor. See:
