What size gullet on a westren saddle would i need for my horse?

In an english saddle, he needs a wide gullet (the bates/wintec esay change gullet system) he has a red gullet.
What size western saddle would he need?
He's a Quarter Horse with a tiny bit of thouroughbred in him, but, he only has a thouroughbred butt, the rest is pure QH!
Thanks for any help!
Also: can you get western saddles with out fleece on the bottom? Or do they only come with fleece?
'm in australia and it can get hot around here.

You need to try a few different saddles, and see what works for him. Its so hard to properly fit any saddle without doing that, especially if you aren't as familiar with the fitting quirks of a particular type of saddle.

You've probably already heard this too, but it bears repeating: once you find one that fits your horse, it needs to fit you too, so you might find it really helpful to get someone familiar with fitting western saddles to help you, even just someone like a coach who can help you see if you're able to fit the sit.

As far as fleece/no fleece... what are you thinking for a saddle pad under the western saddle? As with an english saddle, it should never go bare on the horse's back, so the question of fleece or no fleece may be irrelevant depending what saddle pad you choose.

As for what works in your area, the best thing to do is talk with local horsey people. I would talk to both tack store people and people from your barn about what works for them. What i can tell you is that even where i used to ride (avg summer day is 37celcius, maxing out at 45celcius) they rode with the fleece bottom regular western saddle with a regular wool saddle pad, not anything specifically designed for 'high temperature' riding. Keep in mind that wool saddle pads are both breathable and semi-wicking, meaning that the horse's skin can still breath even under the saddle.
