Square Quilted

how many quilt blocks (91/2) inches square will it take to make a quilt top for a extra long twin bed?

I have the material for the binding around it but need to know if I have enough material for the squares.

An extra long twin mattress is 39" x 80", 5" longer than a standard twin. If you want the quilt to hang to 3" below the bottom edge of the mattress (a standard "coverlet"), and you do NOT want it to cover a pillow, your finished quilt will need to be at least 65" x 93". If you want it to cover the pillow, it should be at least 65" x 105".

If you're cutting 9 1/2" squares (that will finish at 9" when you sew them together), you can make a 72" x 99" quilt with 88 squares, or a 72" x 108" quilt with 96 squares. You will need either 6 yards (for 88 squares) or 6 1/2 yards (for 96 squares) of fabric for the top.
