can you wear something else instead of proper riding boots when riding a horse?

I'm very new to horse riding and want to buy a kit to get me started. Unfortunately I don't have a big budget, so Im looking for cheaper alternatives. I love these boots http://shopping.tribesports.co.uk/equestrian/riding-footwear/wellington-boots/230909-women39s-ditsy-spot-wellingtons , but not sure If I can wear them instead of proper riding ones. Can anyone please help me?

You can wear anything that gives you the support you need in the stirrups. But make sure they aren't too wide, because when you fall off (which will happen at some point!!), the last thing you want is your foot stuck in a stirrup, which I am sure you can imagine. I'm not an expert on the subject, so you should ask someone with more experience!
