Are magnetic cat flap collars safe?

Just thinking about getting this for my two cats because stray cats and even raccoons come through our cat door.

Aret they safe for the cat? I'm assuming they are since there are magnetic collars out there used for theraputic purposes. What about regular magnetic as opposed to electro-magnetic?

Just want to know if any one else has experience with this.

Thanks!

I've owned several magnetic cat flaps. Other cats were often coming in and eating my cat's food etc; and my cat is shy and passive she started guarding the cat door because she was afraid!

There is no danger to the cat from the magnet. My cat spent 6-8 years with a magnet on her collar. She lived to be 20.

One problem I had with the first magnetic flap is, it made such a loud CLICK when she approached and the latch snapped open, it scared her away! I had to return that one.

Eventually she got used to a different model. It was great! She stopped guarding the door after a while. No other cats came in. She felt safe.

One time she lost her collar, when I came home I could see she hadn't eaten her food, I checked the flap and she was on the outside repeatedly trying to open it with her nose! I felt terrible because she probably was doing that for a while.

But overall, it worked out very well.

The only other problem was that I never found a door that worked for more than about 2 years before it broke. This was 10 years ago, maybe they make them better now.

Definitely recommended!
