Hand Knitted
Thursday, February 25th, 2010Has anyone tried to sell their hand-knitted items? Either eBay or local shops?
I love knitting, but may use elements of both myself. Would love to branch out and start selling some of my work.
Okay, you're ready to branch. First, decide how you want your items. Forml usual is the cost of materials x 3. ie if it costs you $ 5 to the point and multiplying x 3 and sell for $ 15.00. This is just a rule that you can charge more if the market can bear the price. When determining the cost of using materials retail price (even if you bought the yarn on sale). After a bit, you can adjust your price. Unfortunately, with items that you hand can not charge your time as nobody will pay the value. Once you have the material aspects sales off to start networking as well. Tell all your friends, ask them to tell their friends. Have business cards printed up. The move every time you talk to someone (even just a chat in the store). Make sure you have an email address and phone number of contact noted on maps. If you have relatives living in other states send them a letter explaining your new business and include some of these business cards for them to lose consciousness. Join any local knitting guilds, visit local stores and son say - all those that you see on your items, Handknitted. The key is networking, networking and more networking. Finally, you may want to invest in Your Own website. Good luck. I am in the process of getting ready to open a website. Have fun meeting new people.
