How to train a horse on a snaffle bit?
This is a three year old that has had some training with a hackamoore and rides, but has never had a bit in its mouth
the answer or putting just the bridle on with the snaffle in the stall is great to start. after he has done that for a few days, try lunging with the bridle on, over the top of a halter so not to use the rings for lunging. take a single rein and tie it to your girth in the direction that you are going, not too tight, just enough to give it some pressure, so they get used to the pull and going in the same direction as the pull. you can tighten up the rein a little at a time over a few days and make sure to switch sides and lunge the same way going the other direction. this should transition you to be able to ride with no problems. make sure you use a noseband and keep this tight as so he can't open his mouth and get away from the bit. bit evasion is common for a young/green horse with a snaffle. do this all the time with green horses and works great. good luck. remember to use the same whoa commands and cues that you use with the hackamore with the snaffle so he understands what you are asking for.
