What is the purpose of having a Scottish, English, Guernsey, Jersey, Isle of Man books instead of a single United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the Crown Dependencies or a Pound set of notes that the list of all countries. I already know most can be used in other countries, but whats the point of having a different set of tickets printed for each country and not just single set
The answer is in the history of the banking system, and the identities national. They are all the same currency, Sterling. All notes are legal tender in every country. However, only the Bank of England has published notes are legal tender in England. Scottish notes are not legal tender in England, but they are legal tender. legal tender is an archaic law which means nobody can be forced to accept it as payment.
