question for a doctor, nurse, or med student?
i am 20 years old and went to see a GP today due to cold like symptoms. the doctor looked into my mouth and asked me if i knew that i had a HOLE in my mouth. i told him i never heard that before. he said i was probably born with it. granted i dont see doctors much the last time i went was probably a few years ago. i asked my parents if they heard that before they said they didnt. should i see somebody to check this? if so what kind of doctor? i can see the hole when i open my mouth wide but the fact that i never heard this before worries me?
If by hole you mean at the hard palet (the hard , bone top of our mouths)it is possible you were born with it. You see, our jaw is one bone but our upper half of our mouth is formed by two bones that connect at the middle(it is that line you feel when you touch the upper side of your mouth with your tongue). In your case maybe that connection was not actually perfect and you have that slight defect. But yoy are 20 years old. I am sure you were examined more than once these past 20 years(for tonsilitis, maybe?), so if it were a dangerous situation your parents would have known about this. Get a second opinion, or explain exactly what you mean. I hope this helped
