Horse Size
What size horse should she be looking for a a first horse?
My friend's parents are discussing getting her a horse, and I was wondering what size you would recommend, i know its not all about size but stil..
she is 15 and about 5'3 i think.
I have seen some pretty tall riders showing smaller horse breeds like the old style Arabians and old style Morgans. They are both horses built for strength, stamina, endurance and athletes. Another breed that is smaller that can do quite well is the Mustang and quarter horses (although most are not as small as they used to be). When I had my Arab, he was a small one, 14.1 or 14.2 (maybe), and I have remained 5'4" since the age of 14, I thought we were meant for each other and looked and felt good together. It also depends on what she is using the horse for, I just used mine for personal, never stepped foot in a show. Some of my favorite horses were older and grade horses. So it just depends on what she wants and needs. I would say between 14.3 and 16.2, that leaves room for a lot of variety.
