Flash Brown
How can I take photos of myself using flash without looking dark and shiny?
I'm a black girl with black skin, and whenever I use flash with my camera, I usually come out 10 shades darker than my normal brown color, and very shiny and oily looking.
How can I prevent this without applying makeup?
Can I use a different setting on my regular point and shoot digital camera?
Diffusing the flash will help if you have to use the flash.
But like was already said, it is best not to use flash at all. Try shooting yourself outside on a sligthly overcast day where the light is soft and even but bright enough that you don't need the flash.
Or, if it is sunny, do it either in mid-morning or early evening when the sun is off to your side shining across your face. This will create highlights across your face which give dimension and will look very nice. Plus the light at this time of day is kind of golden and very flattering.
