English Saddleseat
How to wrap manes for saddleseat?
I ride english saddleseat on walking horses. When i went to my last show, I saw that their forelocks were braided and tucked back i think behind their browbands and a little of their mane behind their bridlepath was braided to. All the braids were wrapped in this "stuff". xD I was the only one who didn't have any braids. Does anyone know how to braid the mane and forelock properly and what is that "stuff"?
Any other ideas or saddleseat stuff is welcome!

I show saddlebreds.... I think what you are talking about is ribbon... Saddlebreds we just take off there forlocks and we only braid there main(depending on what divition they show in)
im not to fimilar with the walking horses show circut..a couple entry up he sed that you only braid depending on the divition... but thats saddlebreds not walkers... i dont want you to get confused.. i think u braid all walking horses
But all it is is ribbion, you can buy it threw a catolog such as nationbridle.com. Its not just any ribbion, its quite diffrent then ribbion your might find at the craft store... the ribbion on the website... is the correct thickness...
Ribbons come in diffrent colors, there is always a dominate color for a breed... for saddlebreds it burgandy...I use royal blue, just because its my barn color and my horses brow bands are all blue.... but depending on the browband color is the color i would use... i dont know if its diffrent with your breed
You braid the forlock and the main,... i going to try and explain the braiding process..
you take 3 ribbons all the same length... i usualy do about 14 to 17 in depending on the length of the main and the height of the horse... you dont want it too long or too short... i would do no more then 11-12 in on the forlock
1. take 3 pieces of ribbon all the same length..
2. tie a knot aout 1/2 -1 inch of the edge( dont do very close to the edge or tip of the ribbons) on one side...
3. part the main or forlock in 3 even pieces
4. place the knot close to the horses head
5. Grab the horses main and one ribbion for each of the 3 sections.. and braid the ribbion into the main or forlock...
6. Keep the braid snug and braid it to the end
7. tie another knot with all 3 pieces at the end(should be longer then the main) leaving room at the end
8. Cutting the tips of the ribbion into Vs... with the ends you left, fold each ribbon
9. take the one edg and place it on the other ege and cut diagonal(once you unfold it, it sould look like a V) repeat for the rest
I would practice the cutting before you do it for your show... so u can just braid some ribbion and practice without your horses untill u get comfortable
If you looking for a already braided ribbion you just put on, they have them in the national bridle catologe... i just find it easy and cheaper to braid it my self
to take it off... just cut off the knote at the end and unbraid.... good luck.... hope this helped.
