Elegant Stitched

how can i stitch the baby's name into the blanket that i am knitting?

its a knitted blanket. i plan on stitching a silk-like edge to the ends, and having one side with the baby's name on it. How can i stitch the name on, while still allowing it to look elegant and cute??

something with needlepoint maybe??
note: i do not know how to crochet. only needlepoint, knit, and sew

thanks!!!

So the silk-like edge would be woven fabric that you sew on? In that case, embroidering the name in chain stitch or another simple stitch would look nice.

An alternative is to stencil it on. You can buy the stencil ink/paint and stencils in a craft store.

Or you can print the name on that special fabric printer paper you can buy, choosing an elegant font, and then iron the name onto the fabric.

If you want the name embroidered on the knitting itself, try duplicate stitch - you stitch this on with an embroidery needle after you've finished knitting, but it looks as though you've knitted the name into the fabric itself. Here's an explanation: http://www.thedietdiary.com/blog/lucia/259
