Elastic Dressage
I want to get a dressage girth but use it while jumping, is it ok?
Will it affect me in any way while doing hunter/jumper shows? I prefer the dressage ones with the belly protector and elastic on both ends.
This has a small belly guard on it and it's a dressage girth...

Well, real dressage girths aren't long enough for close contact saddles, and they make girths for close contact saddles that have elastic on both ends and belly protectors. So, why not get a girth that has a belly protector and elastic on both ends?
Actually, everyone that I know has only elastic on both end type of girths. I don't know anyone who uses the old only elastic on one side type of girth anyomore.
I have 3 different girths for my close contact saddle, 3 different brands and sizes all have elastic on both ends....
So, which dressage girth do you like so much? If you post it, I'll find an actual cc/ap girth that you can use that is like .

I am not sure what you mean by "belly protectors" because the only girths with "belly guards" are jumping girths. Belly guards help protect the stomach in case they hit the jumps. If by "belly protector" you mean some time of sheepskin or soft covering or antimicrobial, etc. then there are dressage girths with that. However, dressage girths do not come with belly guards as in dressage the belly will not hit anything/does not need protection.

EDIT PER YOUR NEW LINK: That girth does not have a belly guard on it. it is a shaped/contoured/chaffeless girth...most dressage girths are countoured. I use this wintec dressage girth with my bates dressage saddle: http://www.doversaddlery.com/product.asp?pn=X1-02669&ids=477578918 They are just shaped like that to be more ergonomic...they come in a little where the legs are to prevent chaffing, and they make the center area bigger to disperse the pressure on that area of the stomach for better comfort, as the dressage girths are much shorter and thus exert more pressure on the area that they cover. However this does not provide protection against hitting something like a belly guard does it is just shaped that way for extra comfort. A girth with a belly guards is about 2 1/2 - 3 times as wide as that in the middle and has hard leather covering that area with padding to protect the belly (see one of the belly guard girth links above).
There are also shaped girths for jumping/close contact and all-purpose girths. So, THAT is what you should get. Wintec makes a nice one that is fully elastic: http://www.doversaddlery.com/product.asp?pn=X1-0238&ids=477578918 The center area is almost the same width as the dressage girth center area above and comes in near the legs to prevent chaffing. As it is longer, it appears as though the middle isn't as wide, but it is just the illusion created by the fact that this girth is two times as long as the dressage girth (to be able to reach the cc billets). this is a great girth. So, I recommend it for what you are doing.

So, for the exact same shape and effect, looke for a "countoured" "chaffeless" girth made for cc or ap saddles. they will be long enough for your saddle, come in brown and are the equivalent of what you want and are looking at and for and what you need or should have for a hunter show.
