Dressage show nerves in IDA?
So my first IDA (Intercollegiate Dressage Association) show is in a week, and its away. I have my basics down and know my test, but whenever I ride a test in front of judges at practice shows (and even my coach) I freeze/tense up and don't ride half as well as I normally do. She keeps telling me to come up with a strategy to calm myself down, and while I have some ideas, I'd like to hear more. I'm afraid that if she doesn't see that I'm more calm than normal she won't let me show as much as I'd like to.
Any suggestions for a specific strategy?? Thanks.
Do something you really enjoy right before your lessons/shows. Something that will pump you up and get you excited instead of nervous. Like listen to your favorite music or watch a great movie or something like that. Your nerves should dissipate with more practice, so in time you won't need any tricks. But for now, find something that works for you. Good luck!
